Christmas in Knoxville

Knoxville is a wonderland of sights, scenes, and fun activities during the Christmas season.

For example, the annual Knoxville Nativity Pageant presents a combination of realistic settings, effective lighting, real animals, orchestral and choral music, and authentic costumes produces a powerful and dramatic fifty-five minute presentation of the Christmas story – a story that is eternally the same, but always new. Presented by the Knoxville Nativity Pageant, Inc. it appeals to audiences of all ages. Many families come again and again, making it part of their own Christmas tradition. The Pageant is thrilling to those who attend and also to those who work to create it each year. The average annual attendance for the last several years has been 15,000. The Nativity Pageant involves hundreds of volunteers from the Knoxville area in a professionally directed pantomime drama. The Pageant combines a cast of 90 fully costumed adults and children, moving narration, realistic sets, authentic costumes, and live animals to create a beautiful and powerful presentation of the Christmas story. A 200-voice choir, accompanied by a 20-member orchestra, provides music. The Pageant has been a traditional part of metropolitan Knoxville’s Christmas celebration since 1968.

The Fantasy of Trees at the Knoxville Convention Center has been a holiday tradition in East Tennessee since 1985. Enjoy whimsical decorations and wintry designs that celebrate and showcase the fun and festive holiday season with reindeer at play. All proceeds from the Fantasy of Trees benefit Children’s Hospital.
