The University of Tennessee VOLS are comprised of various sports teams, including football, men and women's basketball, skiing, swimming, baseball, golf, and tennis. The 1996 Vols gave the school its second straight top 10 ranking with a 10-2 record topped of by a 48-28 victory over Northwestern in the Florida Citrus Bowl. Record crowds filed through the gates of the newly enlarged Neyland Stadium, with a collegiate attendance mark of 107,608 for the Sept. 21 game with Florida. Coach Phillip Fulmer received NCAA recognition, based on five years incumbency, for having the second highest career winning percentage (.827) among active head coaches. The Lady VOLS are national basketball champions.

Knoxville Youth Sports
Knoxville Youth Sports has been organizing and administering recreational youth sports programs since 1956. Today, KYS participants range in age from four to 18. Its leagues play at Lakeshore Park, Sequoyah Park, and in gyms throughout west Knoxville. KYS has some 500 girls and boys in basketball, 1,200 in baseball and softball, and more than 500 in fall baseball.

Knoxville Challenger Sports
The Knoxville Challenger Little League Baseball program played their first game on April 28, 1997. They began with 4 teams and about 30 special needs children. Since that time the league has expanded to 8 teams (4 for younger children and 4 for older players) with a roster of 80 - 100 children per year. The Challenger Little League program is provided at no charge to youngsters with special needs and is funded mainly through community support and contributions.
